This guide explains how acho.lol is organized. Before writing or editing an entry, read the language and style guide.
Wiki structure
- Palabras/ — Individual words and slang.
- Dichos/ — Phrases, expressions, and popular sayings.
- Artículos/ — Semantic collections connecting related words and sayings.
- Personas/ — Biographies and profiles.
- Fauna/ — Puerto Rican wildlife and its local names.
- Controversias/ — Debates and disputed cultural questions.
- Meta/ — Documentation, templates, and tasks for the wiki itself.
Semantic hubs
A semantic hub groups related terms under one concept. For example, “The thousand ways to say everything is chaos” compares crical, carajal, descoñe, revolú, and other choices. “The thousand ways to hit someone” gathers galleta, gaznatá, pescozá, and more.
Hubs help readers navigate, compare relative intensity and vulgarity, and discover unfamiliar terms.
Create an individual page when a term has an interesting history, regional variants, confusing meanings, search value, or enough examples and context. Leave it in the hub when it is obvious, has only one or two useful lines, or remains too incomplete for an entry.
Entry structure
Typical entries include:
- Meaning — A short definition.
- Register — Region, tone, formality, vulgarity, and context.
- Closest English equivalent — An approximation, not a forced literal translation.
- Usage — Several natural examples.
- Variants — Other attested forms.
- Related terms — Links to hubs and neighboring entries.
- Origin or notes — Cultural and historical context when available.
- References — External sources.
For English pages, preserve Puerto Rican terms, names, quotations, lyrics, and references in Spanish. Explain the culture around them instead of translating every word mechanically.
Quality standards
We document slang, sayings, memes, and popular culture without pretension. We clearly label unverified material, keep an informal but respectful tone, and link pages into a navigable cultural network.
We do not invent facts, copy copyrighted material, or publish sensitive personal information without consent.
How to contribute
- Add a word under
Palabras/. - Add a saying under
Dichos/. - Create a semantic hub under
Artículos/. - Correct or expand the appropriate existing file.
- When translating, add the matching page under
en/and preserve its mirrored filename so the language switcher can pair it automatically.
Use the term as it is actually said, retain accents and special characters, and follow preferred forms such as tiraera, not tiradera.
